Games Workshop question by Walter W: Is Starcraft and/or Warcraft Related in any way to Games workshop’s Warhammer Fantasy or Warhammer 40k?
The comparison between both Warcraft and Warhammer Fantasy Battle is often made. I also keep hearing stories about how the original Warcraft was suppossed to originally be a Warhammer Fantasy game, but it fell through with Games Workshop and we instead got Warcraft. Is there any proof that the two were originally intended to be in the same universe and instead Blizzard shifted afew details to create the initial Warcraft by including more referenced material such as Dungeons and Dragons?
Similarly, is there any way to confirm that the reason why Starcraft is so similar to Warhammer 40k is in part due to Blizzard still feeling angry over how Gamesworkshop denied them the Fantasy Warhammer license and thus there are alot of similarities and parallels between the two licenses?

Starcraft in particular is very similar to Warhammer 40k. Supposably, there was a lawsuit against Blizzard for stealing Gamer’s Workshops ideas, but it was apparently dropped, as as you can guess, blizzard has ALOT more money than Gamers Workshop. Blizzard never sought any licensing, and probably just stole the ideas in the first place.
As far as I know, warcraft has nothing to do with it.

This kit has some very good paints in it, including the very important Devlan Mud wash. The included brush is a good brush for beginning, but if you want to do high detail, you’re going to want something a little more precise, though it does the job. There is plenty of paint as long as you know how to make it last.
The worst part of the product, I would say, is the directions. Instead of doing things in a manner which would allow you to do everything in a logical order, it quite often has you do them in an order to use one paint, then move to the next paint rather than paint here, then here, then here so you don’t have to do as much touchup work.
Overall, the 10 gobbos make good, easy practice for beginners like me, the directions could have been better, the paints are high quality, and the brush is good quality. Worth it if the price is good.

|Hello, for starters it is quite possible that Blizzard stole the ideas from Gamesworkshop. Warhammer 40k has been around since the early 80′s (it was called spacehulk). The Zerg and some of their creatures bear amazingly striking resemblance to the 40k tyranids. Of course there could have been some kind of agreement between the two companies on what could and couldn’t be used in starcraft.
On the money aspect…If Gamesworkshop wanted to sure Blizzard they could have. The company has been in business for over 30 years and with some models costing over a hundred bucks each (even the cheaper/smaller models are $ 18.00 a piece.) I am pretty sure they had more than enough fundage at the time to take on blizzard.
As for confirmation, the only way your gonna get that is to go to the source. Find a Gamesworkshop or Blizzard public representative and ask them for a straight answer. Odds are that you won’t get one, but it could be fun to try. Good luck.
If so that ended up being a brilliant move for Blizzard. They’re doing pretty decent last time I checked.
